Frank Davis President of Southern States Checker Association opened the business meeting at 10:00am Friday morning with prayer by Ken Christian, our SSCA Vice-President. Frank welcomed 19 players, saying we were one more than last year's 18 participants, but it looked like a very strong group of checker players. Our 19 players were from 7 states: (6 Masters, 13 Majors played) 8 from TN; 4 from NC; 3 from KY; and 1 each from FL, IN, LA, & WV.

Under electing new officers, Hollis McCard made a motion, seconded, and carried to keep existing officers: Frank Davis, President of Southern States Checker Association (SSCA), Ken Christian, V-Pres., and Mary Davis as Secretary & Treasurer.

Frank covered the playing rules, tournament agenda, and schedule. Things such as: 8 rounds as 2.5 hours of tournament play with 3 rounds Friday, 4 rounds Saturday, and 1 round Sunday, to be played as posted on the Schedule displayed on the bulletin board with starting and finishing times.

Lateness for play would be penalized by forfeiting a game if over 15 minutes late and if a hour late it would be ruled as a forfeit for both games or a round forfeit. The bye would be 3 points and treated as a random for the first if needed to balance pairing opponents; thereafter, to the lowest point man and additional byes are awarded as 2 points. We elected to repair only in the last round if necessary. The standard 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and zero points for a loss will be counted as game points. You must stay on schedule as for time limits allowed for the games and rounds as 1 1/4 hours per game making a 2 1/2 hour round.

We voted that players have this option: after 1st hour on their first game players may consider recording the position of their unfinished game and start their 2nd game, after completing it, return to their unfinished game. If players didn't want to do this, then Frank Davis, referee's rules would apply.

Frank Davis said a time limit of 1 minute per move for 10 minutes would be applied to conclude overtime games, if that didn't determine the results then he would make a judgment call to terminate the overtime game in order to stay on schedule. He also has the option to solicit the aid of another Master to help judge the results. On Master overtime games a computer program (KingRow analysis) may be requested, and could be used if both Master players agreed, and at least a 60+ point score is needed to declare a win.

Frank Davis reported on the W.C. Green Trust Fund saying this year we had $114.00 applied toward the Southern prize fund which Morgantown Bank & Trust of Morgantown, Kentucky sent to Frank Davis, President of the Southern States Checker Association.

Ken Christian was again recognized for his effort on soliciting and gathering up the nice door prizes. Most of the prizes were from The Wilson Co Bank & Trust, The Wilson Co/Lebanon Chamber or Commerce, and the Wilson Co. Convention & Visitor Center.

Davis also announced the 2015 Tennessee State Open will be held March 6th - 8th, 2015 and the Southern will be held July 10th - 12th, 2015 in Lebanon, TN with a king or double queen room rental increase of $7 dollars next year, up from $42 to $49 with 16.24% tax = checker players' rate of $56.96 per night, which includes our playing room, coffee, and continental breakfast.

It was also announced that the ACF 3-Move National was just 10 days away, Wednesday through Sunday, July 23rd through July 27th.

GM stands for Grand Master, IM for International Master, and CM for Candidate Master, which are earned titles given by WCDF to distinguish accomplished players.

ACF Ratings before this tournament are supplied by ICH Checkers www.icheckers.net. Tournament score-sheets are processed by Joe Moore and the after ratings reflect this update above and also available at icheckers ratings.

"T" separates player's opponent from player's accumulated game points. Draw is 1, Win is 2 points, Bye is 3, and Forfeit is 4.

We appreciated the donations and contributions to the Southern this year as: Joe McDaniel $200, Frank Davis $100, Larry Keen $100, and Ted Williamson $20 which help make up the total cash prize fund of $960.00. Entry fee for Masters was $25 and Majors division was $20.

Many wives, friends, and family attended, namely seeing: Mary Davis, Shirley Lerum, Paralee Shultz, Bernice Powell, Susie West, Sue Tucker, Bea Christian, Martha Rankhorn, Mary Perry, Carol Williamson, Carolyn Minor, Mrs. Yoder, Tiffany Stanley and family, and Steve Watkins from Clarksville, TN. I'm sure there were others I haven't mentioned or didn't see during the tournament.

Frank and Mary, our referee and scorekeeper did a fantastic job as usual.

Hotel Management continues to make improvements to the hotel which again shows their appreciation for our Checker Players' patronage which encourages the TCA & SSCA directors to sticking with this hotel as our tournament venue.

We collected several ACF membership renewals.

Local hometown newspapers ran articles on Stanley and Powell.

The majority of players attended Sunday Service, which was opened by Frank Davis, invocation by Teal Stanley, Ken Christian sang "I Come To The Garden Alone",

Ted Williamson invited his nephew Kevin and Debby Williamson, "The Williamson Branch" to sing and play for us. This year the whole Williamson family was here to play, so all five performed and they were good! They played and sang bluegrass gospel which entertained and blessed us richly. Melody age 15 sang and played fiddle, Kadence age 11 sang, played base guitar, & base fiddle, Caroline age 5 sang and all harmonized with Dad and Mother. Kadence also did some clogging. Ted delivered an inspiring message, "Being continuous, Steadfast in all things in the Lord." Ted spoke on the virtues of righteousness, temperaments, judgment, death, and glorious resurrection. We took up a collection for the Williamson Singers for coming out and entertaining us.

A delightful tournament & wonderful fellowship was had by all who attended. Good Players - Good Fellowship!
